Event Log Actions

Event Log Actions enable you to write to Event Logs when executables such as monitors and reports start, trigger, complete, error and recover. Event Log Actions can be also be used to forward triggered log entries to any Event Log.

Alert When forwarding Event Log entries to another Event Log, each entry's Source, Category, Level, Event ID and Message is applied to the new Event Log Entry.

To create an Event Log Action

  • From the Menu Bar select File | New. The Create New Object View displays.
  • Select Alerts and Actions. The New Action view displays.
  • Use the Name text box to specify a unique name.
  • From the Type drop-down select Event Log.
  • Use the Windows server or workstation drop-down to select the host you want to write the Event Log Entry.
    Alert If you do not assign a host, the triggered host is used or if assigned to a report, the localhost is used.
  • Use the Log drop-down to select the target Event Log or specify a new custom Event Log name.
  • Use the Source text box to specify the Event Log Source value.
  • Use the Category text box to specify the category ID.
  • Check the Set level option then select the level to apply, otherwise either the executable state (e.g. Started, Warning, Critical, Error, Recovered or Completed) is converted to an Event Log Entry Level or if forwarding entries, the level of each entry is used.
  • Use the Event ID text box to specify the Event ID.
  • Use Message text box to specify the message you would like to write.
    Use the Variable Variable Button button to specify variables you would like to include in the message (e.g. {HOST}).
